Brian Sithu

I’m Brian Sithu, a full-stack software engineer from Myanmar currently based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

I started building software because I liked the idea that a single person with a laptop could create something useful and put it in front of people anywhere in the world. That idea still drives most of what I do.

My work is mostly focused on web products. I work across frontend interfaces, backend systems, APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and increasingly AI-powered applications.

I’m comfortable taking a product from an early idea to something running in production, including designing the application structure, building the user interface, implementing backend services, working with databases, integrating third-party services, containerizing applications, and deploying them to the cloud.

Some of the technologies I work with regularly include React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, Docker, AWS, and modern AI tooling.

What I’m working on

I currently work as a freelance software engineer, helping build and improve software products for clients.

At the same time, I spend a lot of my own time experimenting with products, developer tools, AI agents, and small software businesses.

I’m especially interested in the point where software engineering meets product thinking: figuring out what is worth building, building it quickly without sacrificing quality, putting it in front of real users, and improving it based on what happens next.

My long-term goal is to build software products of my own that can grow into meaningful independent businesses.

What I care about

I like software that is simple, useful, and reliable.

I care about good engineering, but I also try not to over-engineer things that do not need it. I prefer choosing technology based on the problem rather than chasing complexity for its own sake.

Recently, I’ve been spending more time learning about production AI systems, AI agents, retrieval systems, cloud infrastructure, DevOps, and how modern engineering teams build and operate software at scale.

I’m also interested in the business side of software: distribution, product strategy, pricing, SaaS economics, and what separates products people actually pay for from projects that are simply interesting to build.

Writing

I use this site to write about things I’m learning and working on.

You’ll mostly find posts about software engineering, AI, cloud infrastructure, developer tools, building products, and occasional notes from experiments or projects.

Writing helps me organize what I learn, and hopefully some of it is useful to other engineers building similar things.

Outside software

Outside work, I spend most of my time learning, exploring new products and technologies, going to the gym, and occasionally traveling around Thailand and Southeast Asia.

I’m currently based in Chiang Mai, which has turned out to be a pretty good place to build things from.
